ThigpenPR devised a successful public awareness campaign during the Port of Houston Authority’s 75th Birthday Celebration and bond campaign for the channel modernization project. ThigpenPR wrote creative copy to promote public awareness of the employment opportunities created by the modernization project.
An illustration series traced the ports’ development from 1837 to 1989, serving as a popular communications commemorative collateral piece. The two-day 75th Birthday Celebration included: Re-enactment of the 1914 official ceremonies of the port opening; a concert by local high school bands and drill teams; educational exhibitions; international foods, entertainment, and games for all ages. A “Kid’s Korner” sponsored by McDonald’s Restaurants with Ronald McDonald as the guest of honor, free boat rides aboard the M/V Sam Houston and a parade of tall ships. ThigpenPR worked closely with port officials, county government, city officials, and local business for a successful campaign.
